Giving Back to the Future Helping the Schools Around Jicaro

Jicaro Island Ecolodge was built on the premise of sustainability. Translated to our daily work this means that our operations always try to minimize impact on the environment and that we actively seek to contribute to our surrounding community. Jicaro is developing a community-based outreach program focused around education. There are three public elementary schools in the vicinity of Jicaro with a total student body of 210 (preschool to 6th grade) and 9 teachers. These schools do not have the necessary resources to teach basic reading, writing, and math skills. They lack basic supplies and materials and infrastructure, like desks, chairs and classroom space to teach, and even proper space for the children to play.

Our first project, KarmaNica, supports the 35 children of the Cedric Martin school.  The project is long term, seeking to ensure that this school always has what it needs to provide an optimal learning and activities environment for the children. Among it’s myriad contributions, the project will provide school supplies and uniforms for the children, and learning resources for the classroom.  It will rebuild current infrastructure and create playground space with gardens.  Solar panels will be installed to bring electricity, and a small “panga” boat will be purchased to help transport the kids to and from the school. KarmaNica also aims to introduce organized sports, art, and music to the curriculum.  This is an extraordinary initiative, one of which you can be part.

Give back to the future and help KarmaNica fulfill its mission of providing a learning and activities environment for the children of Cedric Martin.  Specifically, you can donate for one of the packages below.
